Antique vehicles and expanded-use antique vehicles are required to display registration plates on the rear of the vehicle only, rather than front and rear.

Expanded-use antique vehicles may be operated year-round with no restrictions on destination or purpose, removing prior seasonal limitations (January-March and November-December restrictions).

Owners of vehicles more than 25 years old or replicas thereof may register as expanded-use antique vehicles for an annual fee of $45 plus appropriate registration and renewal fees.

Expanded-use antique vehicle owners may display a historical license plate from the vehicle's model year instead of current Illinois plates, provided the valid registration plates and card are carried in the vehicle for inspection.

The Secretary of State may credit a pro-rated portion of fees previously paid for standard antique vehicle registration when an owner converts to expanded-use antique vehicle registration.
