IL SB2775

Requires the Chicago Board of Education to provide free transportation to pupils who must walk or travel along safe passage routes designated by the board to reach school or return home.

Applies to school districts organized under Article 34 of the School Code (Chicago Public Schools) in addition to existing transportation requirements.

Defines safe passage routes as paths where walking constitutes a serious safety hazard due to vehicular traffic or rail crossings.

Requires school boards to conduct safety studies upon written parent petition and submit findings to the Illinois Department of Transportation for approval or disapproval within 30 days.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
