Construction or maintenance zone speed limit signs must be equipped with flashing yellow lights that operate while workers are present in the zone.

Special speed limits for construction and maintenance zones only apply when workers are present and flashing yellow lights are in operation.

First violation is a petty offense with minimum fine of $250; second or subsequent violation carries minimum fine of $750.

Additional surcharges apply: $125 for first violations and $250 for subsequent violations, deposited into Transportation Safety Highway Hire-back Fund to hire off-duty police officers to monitor construction zones.

Second or subsequent violation within 2 years results in 90-day driver's license suspension if the violation occurred while workers were present in the zone.
