SB2901 Summary

• Sets maximum speed limit of 70 mph on interstate highways as defined by Section 1-133.1 of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

• Establishes 65 mph speed limit for highways designated by the Department with at least 4 lanes of traffic and separated roadways for opposite directions.

• Sets 55 mph speed limit for all other highways, roads, and streets regardless of urban district status.

• Allows Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Madison, McHenry, St. Clair, and Will counties to adopt ordinances setting lower maximum speed limits on their roads and streets.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
