IL SB3042

Amends the Line of Duty Compensation Act to expand the definition of "killed in the line of duty" for law enforcement officers, firemen, volunteer firemen, and paramedics to include self-inflicted injuries when a mental health professional establishes the injury resulted from active duty service.

Defines "law enforcement officer" to include supervisors, wardens, guards, correctional officers, youth supervisors, parole agents, and school teachers in the Department of Corrections and Department of Juvenile Justice who have daily contact with inmates.

Specifies that deaths of corrections and juvenile justice employees are covered only when caused by direct or indirect willful acts of inmates, wards, work-releasees, parolees, or persons subject to confinement in these departments.

Establishes that law enforcement officers can receive line of duty compensation for injuries sustained while attempting to prevent crimes, apprehend suspects, or traveling to or from employment, regardless of on-duty status.

Takes effect upon becoming law.
