SB3392 Summary

• Amends the Workers' Compensation Act to eliminate the remarriage penalty for widows and widowers of firefighters and police officers who die from accidental work injuries.

• Surviving spouses of firefighters and police officers killed in the line of duty will continue receiving workers' compensation benefits for life, regardless of remarriage.

• Other surviving spouses (non-firefighter/police officer families) who remarry without surviving children lose ongoing benefits and receive a one-time lump sum payment equal to 2 years of compensation.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
