SB3520 Summary

• Establishes "Acute Stroke-Ready Hospital" as a new designation category and eliminates the "Emergent Stroke Ready Hospital" designation in Illinois stroke care system.

• Hospitals certified as Acute Stroke-Ready Hospitals, Primary Stroke Centers, or Comprehensive Stroke Centers by nationally-recognized certifying bodies may be designated by the Department upon submission of certification and payment of annual fees ranging from $100-$500.

• Creates the Stroke Data Collection Fund as a special fund to collect annual designation fees; surplus revenues support the Department Stroke Coordinator's salary and other stroke care initiatives.

• Requires annual fees from designated hospitals to be deposited into the Stroke Data Collection Fund, which uses moneys to support stroke data collection and administrative oversight.

• Modifies Regional and State Stroke Advisory Subcommittee composition to include representation from all three stroke care levels: Comprehensive Stroke Centers, Primary Stroke Centers, and Acute Stroke-Ready Hospitals.
