Illinois Senate recognizes the United States 65th Infantry Regiment (Borinqueneers), a unit formed from Puerto Rico volunteer troops authorized by Congress in 1899 and traced through World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.

Unit earned numerous battle campaign awards including 4 World War II campaigns and 9 Korean War campaigns, plus 10 Distinguished Service Crosses, 258 Silver Stars, 628 Bronze Stars, and over 2,700 Purple Hearts from individual members.

Urges Congress and the President to award the Congressional Gold Medal to the Borinqueneers for their sacrifices, service, and contributions to the nation.

Encourages the Illinois Governor to issue a proclamation supporting the Congressional Gold Medal award and utilize his resources to achieve this recognition.

Commends the US 65th Infantry Regiment Association for preserving the regiment's legacy and directs that copies of this resolution be sent to federal officials, Puerto Rico's Resident Commissioner, and the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
