Treaty of Versailles signed on June 28, 1919 officially ended World War I, with the armistice taking effect on November 11, 1918 at 11:00 a.m.

Congress officially designated November 11 as a legal holiday on May 13, 1938, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower later renamed it Veterans Day to honor all United States military veterans.

Employers in Illinois are not currently required to provide time off for veterans on Veterans Day.

The resolution urges employers throughout Illinois to allow veterans the opportunity to participate in Veterans Day ceremonies or take time off as recognition of their service.
