Illinois Senate mourns the death of Shirley Mae Jackson-Higgins, who passed away on May 24, 2014

Shirley Jackson-Higgins was born February 3, 1943 in Bell City, Missouri and relocated to Maywood, Illinois where she held positions at Miles Square Medical Center, Allied Van Lines, Cook County Board of Commissioners, and as Director of the Maywood Urban Revitalization Corporation

She received recognition including the Operation Uplift Maywood Hometown Achievement Award, the Rosa Parks Heritage Award, and membership in Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honor Society

She is survived by her husband Albert, four adult children (Talbert, Gerald, Angela Shirlene, and Verna), two grandchildren, and numerous siblings and extended family

The Illinois Senate extends sincere condolences to the family and directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to them
