James Donald McLaughlin of McHenry passed away on May 30, 2014, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him.

Born September 25, 1931 in Chicago; raised in Park Ridge, attended Maine Township High School and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, served in the U.S. Army, and married Joan Ellen on May 4, 1963.

Worked as a residential brokerage manager for Wm. L. Kunkel Realtors and later as a real estate sales representative for Baird & Warner until 2004; achieved numerous recognitions including Million Dollar Sales Club membership.

Served his communities through teaching a Home Buyers Clinic at District 214 High Schools, working as judge of elections and precinct captain, volunteering with Meals on Wheels and Arlington Heights Youth Center, and coaching youth baseball and softball.

Survived by his wife Joan, two children (Michael James McLaughlin and Amy Maciaszek), four grandchildren, and other family members; enjoyed traveling, skiing, gardening, and sailing from the Chicago Yacht Club.
