Illinois Senate expresses condolences for the death of Bob McQuirter of Peoria, who passed away on June 7, 2014

McQuirter served 3 years in the United States Army as a paratrooper starting in January 1964, including combat service in the Dominican Republic (April-July 1965) and 12 months in South Vietnam, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal

McQuirter earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business from Jackson State University and worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 38.5 years beginning in June 1970, retiring in February 2009

McQuirter served as adviser to the Black Achievers at the YMCA, founded the Heart of Peoria Neighborhood Association, chaired multiple city commissions, and was a board member for the Children's Home Association and Peoria Housing Authority; he and his wife received the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. "Drum Major" award in January 2007
