Julian "Jerry" Daggett of Chicago passed away on January 31, 2014, and the Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his family and loved ones.

Daggett was born January 1, 1926, in Merriweather, South Carolina, served in the United States Army at the end of World War II, and married Illinois Causey on January 19, 1946.

Daggett was part of the first class of African-Americans to graduate from the Chicago Police Academy and became an original member of The Afro-American Patrolman's League, actively opposing discriminatory practices during the Civil Rights Movement.

Daggett is survived by nine children, a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, 32 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends.

The Illinois Senate directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Daggett family as an expression of sympathy.
