Richard L. "Dick" Nelson of Princeton passed away on July 18, 2014; he was born March 30, 1935 and served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957.

Founded Nelson Enterprises and its subsidiaries including Advanced Asphalt Company, TCI Manufacturing and Sales, and Tri-Con Materials LLC, becoming a nationally known leader in the aggregate industry.

Invented the PEP Vari-Vibe Screen and held worldwide patent recognition; employed several hundred people and established an annual scholarship for Princeton High School seniors attending vocational school.

Served as past-President of the Illinois Asphalt Paving Association and past-President of the Princeton Park District with 20 years of board service; volunteered with Cub Scouts, Princeton Little League, and Bureau County United Way.

Illinois Senate extends condolences to his surviving family: wife Judith, three children (Leanne, Laurie, and Steve), four grandchildren, and siblings Wilbur and Bob Nelson.
