Honors former Illinois State Representative Michael K. Smith, who passed away on August 9, 2014.

Smith was born in Canton on May 23, 1966, graduated from Bradley University in 1988 with a degree in Political Science, and was elected to the Illinois House in 1995.

Served 8 terms representing the 91st District (Fulton, Peoria, and Tazewell counties) and chaired the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee and Agriculture and Conservation Committee.

Founded the Illinois Legislative Fire Services Caucus and served as trustee emeritus at Graham Hospital, past president of the Canton Area Chamber of Commerce, and Parish Council President at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Received numerous awards including the Glen Walters Memorial Award, Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois Legislator of the Year, and the Illinois Farm Bureau Leo Sharp Award.
