Edward B. Schmalzer of McHenry passed away on September 7, 2014, at age 98.

Schmalzer was born in Chicago on July 16, 1916, and worked as a traffic manager in the petroleum industry for Sinclair Oil, Arco, Atlantic Richfield, and British Petroleum, retiring in 1975.

He was active in his family's lives, serving as a taxi service for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in McHenry.

Schmalzer is survived by his daughter Carol Spinelli, two granddaughters (Julie Gehring and Nancy Beffa), two great-granddaughters, and many nieces and nephews.

The Illinois Senate extends condolences to Schmalzer's family and directs a copy of the resolution be presented to them as an expression of sympathy.
