Illinois Senate mourns the death of Marguerite Sara "Rete" Kaufman of Woodstock, who passed away on August 16, 2014.

Kaufman was born August 14, 1913 and earned degrees from Carthage College and University of Illinois in library science, eventually serving as Head Librarian of the Art and Architecture Library at the University of Illinois before retiring in 1974.

Throughout her career, Kaufman worked as a teacher and librarian at multiple institutions including Woodstock Community High School, the State School for the Blind in Iowa, Midland College, and Harvard University's Graduate School of Design.

After retirement, Kaufman was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church, White Sox fan, bird watcher, and world traveler who visited 29 elderhostels across the United States between 1980 and 1998.

Senate extends sincere condolences to Kaufman's surviving cousins and extended family members and directs that a copy of this resolution be presented to her family.
