Dr. Kenneth Epperson of Macomb died on October 2, 2014, at age 90 after a distinguished career in education and community service.

Served as an industrial arts teacher, high school principal, school superintendent, and held a 22-year career at Western Illinois University (WIU) in admissions and community relations before retiring in 1983.

Founded Century 21 Purdum-Epperson real estate agency with his wife in 1990 and was named Macomb Realtor of the Year during his business career.

Demonstrated significant community leadership as a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Kiwanis Club, Spoon River College trustee for 12 years, McDonough County United Way chairman, and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church.

Recognized as a talented woodcarver who designed and carved the Western Illinois University seal in 1974 and the WIU mace used at all commencements and academic events.
