Bernard "Bernie" Thieben of Chillicothe passed away on October 13, 2014, and the Illinois Senate mourns his passing and extends condolences to his family and loved ones.

Thieben was born November 11, 1932, served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and married Beverly J. Buskirk on April 13, 1963.

Retired from Caterpillar after 37 years of service and served as Supervisor of Medina Township for 36 years; also owned an auto body shop for 12 years.

Held leadership positions including past president of the Peoria County Township Officials Association and 12-year chairman of the Township Officials of Illinois Risk Management Association Board.

Was an active member of multiple organizations including Illinois Masonic Lodge 263, the Valley of Peoria Scottish Rite, Mohammed Shriners, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and Chillicothe Lions Club.
