John K. Sciortino, Sr. passed away on September 19, 2014; he was born December 28, 1941 in Melrose Park to parents Florence and Sam Sciortino.

Worked 38 years for the Chicago and North Western Railway, 13 years for Leyden High School District 212, and 11 years for the Northern Asphalt Company.

Received a heart transplant in 1994 from donor Rick Orton after using the HeartMate machine for 47 days as its longest surviving user; was active in the OTS McHenry County Heart Association and spoke publicly about heart health.

Survived by his wife of 47 years Patricia (nee Ellrich), two children Angela and John K. Jr. (with spouse Brandi), granddaughter Ana, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Illinois Senate expresses sympathy to the family and directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to them.
