Charles L. Swarts of Oak Park passed away on June 16, 2014; he was born April 6, 1925 in Chicago.

Graduated from New York Medical College in 1950 and served as a pediatrician and allergist in Oak Park from 1960 until his retirement in 2000, practicing medicine for 50 years without malpractice suits.

Assisted with beta testing of the Salk Vaccine for Polio and conducted research at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden from 1958-59; served as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics/Allergy at University of Illinois-Chicago.

Dedicated to community service as President of the Optimist Club, Oak Park-River Forest Chamber of Commerce, and Oak Park Board of Health; organized summer camps and clinics for children with asthma and allergies.

Survived by three children (Suzanne Winsor, Charles F., and George), five grandchildren, and nephews; preceded in death by his wife Jane Evans Swarts.
