Roger L. Veatch of Thomasville, North Carolina, formerly of Oak Park, passed away on June 10, 2014.

Veatch was born July 16, 1923 in Chicago, graduated from Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1941, and earned a master's degree in biochemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Served in the United States Army beginning in 1945 and worked on the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, New Mexico; later worked 30 years in nuclear medicine at the Hines Veterans Administration Medical Center.

Active in community service including the First United Church of Oak Park, Community Renewal Chorus, and delivering Meals on Wheels into his 70s; retired to North Carolina in 1998 with his wife.

Illinois Senate expresses condolences to his surviving wife of 69 years, Margery, his four children, four grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
