Kay Leonard Stephens of Naperville passed away on September 30, 2014, at the age of 81.

Stephens graduated from DePauw University in 1953 with a degree in music education and later earned a master's degree in music from Northern Illinois University in 1986.

Co-founded the Naperville Heritage Society in 1969 and served as musical director at St. John's Episcopal Church; her efforts helped establish the Naper Settlement.

Created numerous community contributions including antique shows, Christmas pageants, a weed garden managed by the Weed Ladies, a book about Naperville, and a music education program at Little Friends, Inc.

The Senate expresses condolences to her surviving family: 4 children (Susan, John, Ginger, and Jane), 9 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.
