Illinois Senate mourns the death of Dr. Mable Louise Blackwell of Chicago, who passed away on December 22, 2013

Dr. Blackwell earned a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences (1972), Master of Arts in Biology (1974), M.D. in Pediatrics (1978), and Master of Public Health (1986) from various universities

Served over 30 years as a practicing physician, medical administrator, and academician at hospitals including Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Cook County Hospital, and University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine

Founded the Herman T. and Ruth K. Blackwell Foundation, a non-profit public charity that provides an endowed scholarship at Morehouse College and supports community quality of life initiatives

Survived by her daughter Samantha S. Fields, son Ryan E. Fields, five sisters, two brothers, and numerous extended family members
