HB0128 Summary: Turkey Hunting Permits

• Resident wild turkey hunting permits cost no more than $15, while non-resident permits cost no more than $125.

• Free permits issued to Illinois landowners owning at least 40 acres, resident tenants of commercial agricultural land, and certain equity shareholders/members/partners of entities owning at least 40 acres (limited to 15 permits per county for corporations/LLCs and 3 for partnerships).

• One additional permit per parcel available at standard fee to resident co-owners of 40-79 acre parcels unable to receive a free permit for a specific hunting season period.

• Hunters may only use bow and arrow or shotguns (10-20 gauge with shot no larger than No. 4), and hunting is restricted to one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset during open season.

• Prohibited hunting methods include use of dogs, vehicles, aircraft, or bait; bait includes any material except pure water that attracts turkeys; areas remain considered baited for 10 days after bait removal.
