HB0141 Summary

• Repeals Sections 11-208.6 and 11-208.8 of the Illinois Vehicle Code, which previously authorized municipalities and counties to use automated traffic law enforcement systems (cameras) to photograph violations of stop, yield, and speed requirements at intersections and in school/park zones.

• Eliminates authority for red light cameras and speed enforcement cameras at intersections and safety zones by removing the statutory provisions that permitted their use.

• Makes conforming changes throughout the Vehicle Code to remove references to automated speed enforcement systems and the repealed sections, while retaining authorization for school bus stop-arm violation cameras under Section 11-208.9.

• Denies home rule powers to local governments regarding automated traffic law enforcement systems for stop, yield, and speed violations, establishing this regulation as an exclusive state function.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
