Coroners must collect blood and buccal specimens from homicide victims and preserve them through drying (blood/buccal) or freezing (tissue) when available.

Coroners must release specimens to the investigating police agency within 30 days of collection, and police must submit them to an NDIS-participating laboratory (such as Illinois Department of State Police) within 30 days of receipt.

DNA analysis results must be provided to the Illinois Department of State Police and maintained in the State central repository under the same conditions as provided in the Unified Code of Corrections.

Coroners must report deaths where fire is a contributing factor to the Office of the State Fire Marshal within 30 days of filing the permanent death certificate.

Coroners must report deaths where domestic violence is a contributing factor to the Department of State Police.
