HB0330 Summary

• Creates the Recyclable Metal Theft Task Force within the Office of the Secretary of State to combat recyclable metal theft throughout Illinois.

• Task Force composition includes 6 state members (2 senators, 2 representatives, 1 Secretary of State representative, 2 State Police members) and 11 public members representing municipalities, police chiefs, utilities, metal dealers, insurance companies, and rural electric cooperatives.

• Task Force shall develop collaborative efforts and regional task forces to establish long-term legislative and enforcement solutions to address recyclable metal theft in the state.

• Task Force must submit annual reports to the General Assembly and Governor by October 31 of each year reviewing the effectiveness of its efforts to deter, investigate, and prosecute recyclable metal theft.
