Units of local government serving 5,000+ residents and school districts with 500+ students must maintain websites posting current-year information including contact information, budget documents, financial audits, employee compensation, taxes and fees, bids/contracts over $25,000, and monthly check registers.

Meeting agendas and materials must be posted at least 48 hours before regular meetings and 24 hours before special or emergency meetings, with minutes posted within 48 hours of approval.

Financial reports must include 3 years of actual revenues and expenditures broken out by source (local, state, federal), separated into operating/capital/debt service categories, and include per-resident or per-pupil comparisons.

Residents may file mandamus or injunction actions in circuit court to compel compliance with posting requirements, and courts may award attorney fees and costs to prevailing citizens.

Public bodies may fulfill Freedom of Information Act requests by directing requesters to certified accurate online records instead of providing physical copies, unless the requester cannot access the online version.
