HB1420 Summary

• Amends the Counties Code to require hotel tax revenues be expended to promote tourism, transportation for tourists, and infrastructure for transportation for tourists, in addition to existing permitted uses.

• Amends the Illinois Municipal Code with the same requirement that municipal hotel tax revenues be used to promote tourism and conventions, develop infrastructure for transportation for tourists, and provide transportation for tourists, or otherwise attract nonresident overnight visitors.

• Establishes a Tourism Facility Board for Winnebago County comprised of county and municipal representatives with weighted voting based on population to direct use of hotel tax revenues, with Rockford Park District and Convention and Visitors Bureau serving as non-voting ex-officio members.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
