HB2672 Summary

• Changes student member selection at Chicago secondary schools from Board appointment (after advisory student poll) to direct election by 10th and 11th grade students, beginning with the 2016 local school council election.

• Allows 10th and 11th grade students to vote for parent and community resident members of high school councils in addition to voting for student members.

• Requires student member candidates to be in 12th grade at the beginning of the school year coinciding with their term to be eligible for election.

• Student members serve one-year terms coinciding with parent and community member terms; student members may continue serving through graduation if elected mid-year.

• Eliminates subsection (m) provisions regarding Board appointment of student members and replaces them with election procedures integrated into subsection (d).
