IL HB3280

Creates the Public Safety Officer Protection Act requiring public employers to reimburse public safety officers for reasonable attorney's fees incurred in criminal proceedings arising from their official duties.

Exempts reimbursement if the officer is convicted of a crime, employment is terminated for cause, or the officer resigns for reasons other than retirement or disability before fees are incurred.

Defines "public safety officer" to include peace officers, law enforcement officers, emergency medical technicians, first responders, firefighters, and correctional officers.

Defines "public employer" as the State of Illinois, local government units (including home rule units), state-supported colleges or universities, and other public entities with power to employ public safety officers.

Prohibits public employers and home rule units from providing benefits to full-time public safety officers in a manner inconsistent with this Act's requirements.
