Township boards that operate waterworks or sewerage systems may collect a fair and reasonable connection charge by ordinance for construction, expansion, and extension of the system infrastructure.

Connection charges apply to new or additional users of the system and cannot exceed 1/6 of the estimated annual charges for that user class at the net rate.

Funds collected from connection charges shall be used by the township for general township purposes, with primary application toward expanding the system to serve new users.

Township boards may establish rates and charges sufficient to pay principal and interest on bonds, maintenance and operation costs, and maintain an adequate depreciation fund for the system.

Unpaid charges or rates become liens on the real estate receiving sewerage service when they become delinquent according to the township board's ordinance.
