HB3526 Summary

• Students entering 9th grade in 2016-2017 school year or later must complete 4 years of language arts aligned with Illinois Learning Standards for English Language Arts, including one course during senior year, to receive a high school diploma.

• Students must complete 3 years of mathematics aligned with Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics while enrolled in high school, with at least one course taken during their final year of high school.

• Non-traditional mathematics courses may count toward the 3-year mathematics requirement if approved by the school board.

• If a school district offers Advanced Placement computer science courses, the school board must designate them as equivalent to high school mathematics courses on student transcripts.

• Repeals Section 22-10 of the School Code regarding course credit requirements for high school diplomas.
