IL HB4054

Creates the Coroner Training Board with 5 members appointed by the Governor (2 coroners, 2 pathologists from Cook County and other counties, and 1 Illinois citizen) to establish training and certification standards for coroners and deputy coroners.

Board shall select and certify coroner training schools, conduct or approve death investigation training programs, review annual training curriculum, and approve applicants ensuring they have good character and no felony or specified misdemeanor convictions.

Removes coroner training oversight from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and transfers it to the new Coroner Training Board.

Authorizes the Coroner Training Board to accept contributions and gifts from organizations with legitimate interest in coroner training.

Allocates 25% of the Death Certificate Surcharge Fund to the Coroner Training Board for training coroners, deputy coroners, forensic pathologists, and police officers in death investigations, including lodging and travel expenses.
