State Board of Education authorized to make grants up to $250,000 per fiscal year to school districts and special education cooperatives for school energy efficiency projects funded from the School Infrastructure Fund

School districts and special education cooperatives must provide local matching funds equal to the amount of the grant received

Twenty percent of total grant awards in each school year must go to school districts in cities with population over 500,000 that meet program requirements

School energy efficiency grants awarded in 2014 may be expended over a 4-year period instead of the standard 2-year limitation under the Illinois Grant Funds Recovery Act

Unexpended grant funds must be returned to the grantor agency within 45 days after the grant agreement ends or time limitation expires, and deposited back into the original funding source
