Department of Children and Family Services must determine the military status of any parent or guardian accused of child abuse or neglect as soon as practicable after receiving a report.

DCFS must notify the geographically closest Department of Defense Family Advocacy Program within the state if the accused parent or guardian is a service member with an open investigation.

DCFS must also notify the Office of the Adjutant General if the accused parent or guardian is a member of the Illinois National Guard with an open investigation.

"Service member" is defined as an Illinois resident who is a member of any component of the United States Armed Forces, including the Illinois National Guard or reserve components.
