IL HB4592

Amends the School Code to prohibit school districts, joint agreements, and regional superintendents from requesting waivers or modifications of physical education laws and regulations beginning with the 2022-2023 school year.

Allows physical education waivers approved before the 2022-2023 school year to remain in effect for up to 2 school years and permits renewal no more than 2 times, provided the waiver expires by the 2021-2022 school year.

Maintains existing procedures for waiver requests, including public hearings, notifications to collective bargaining agents and state legislators, and State Board of Education review within 45 days.

Preserves restrictions on waivers for special education, teacher licensure, teacher tenure and seniority, Section 5-2.1 compliance, and No Child Left Behind Act requirements.
