HB4826 Summary

• Establishes minimum of one regional interagency fatality review team in each Department on Aging planning and service area to investigate deaths of at-risk adults involving abuse, neglect, or financial exploitation.

• Review teams must include representatives from Department on Aging, coroners/medical examiners, State's Attorneys, law enforcement, health departments, mental health and developmental disability providers, hospitals, and healthcare professionals.

• Reduces required review team meeting frequency from 6 times to 4 times per year.

• Creates Illinois Fatality Review Team Advisory Council composed of one member from each review team to coordinate oversight, standardize processes, and develop recommendations to prevent at-risk adult deaths.

• Protects confidentiality of review team discussions and documents while allowing State's Attorneys to use materials in criminal prosecutions and permitting disclosure of recommendations at team discretion.
