HB5022 - Ultrasound Opportunity Act

• Requires physicians or qualified ultrasound operators at abortion facilities to offer women seeking abortions after 8 weeks of gestation an opportunity to receive and view an active ultrasound of the unborn child before any abortion procedure or anesthesia is administered.

• Ultrasound must be performed by a qualified person with documented ultrasound training, be of standard medical quality, and be offered either at the abortion facility or at a local ultrasound provider facility listed by the facility.

• Facility must document the woman's response to the ultrasound offer, including the date, time, and the woman's signature confirming her informed decision to accept or decline.

• Medical emergency exception applies when a physician determines in good faith clinical judgment that an immediate abortion is necessary to avert the woman's death or prevent serious risk of substantial bodily function impairment.

• Effective immediately upon enactment.
