Beginning with the 2018 registration year, individuals with certain registrations may reclass their vehicle registration when acquiring a special license plate without paying replacement plate fees or registration sticker costs.

Vehicle owners reclassifying to a different plate category receive credit for the unused portion of their current plate and pay the current portion fees for the new plate, plus replacement plate and sticker fees.

Vehicle owners upgrading the registered weight within the same plate category pay the difference in current period fees plus replacement plate and sticker fees.

Reclassing from one plate category to another may only occur once within any registration period.

Certain special interest plates can be transferred between first division vehicles, second division vehicles weighing 8,000 pounds or less, and recreational vehicles.
