Fire chiefs gain authority to enforce rules adopted by the State Fire Marshal under the Fire Investigation Act and carry out duties imposed on local officers under Section 9 of that Act.

Fire chiefs must issue written orders to remove or remedy dangerous conditions or fire hazards found to violate Fire Investigation Act rules, with notice delivered in person, certified mail, or by posting on the premises.

Fire chiefs may order immediate evacuation of premises posing imminent risk of bodily injury or serious harm, effective immediately upon posting, and premises cannot be reoccupied until fire chief inspection and clearance.

State's Attorneys may petition circuit courts for enforcement of fire chief orders through temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, or permanent injunctions, with no bond required and no damages assessable.

These provisions are supplementary to the Fire Investigation Act and do not limit the authority of fire chiefs, local officers, or the State Fire Marshal under existing law.
