IL HB5656

Amends the Children and Family Services Act to include great-grandparents alongside grandparents in visitation privilege provisions for children in Department care and custody.

Requires the Department to make reasonable efforts and accommodations to provide visitation privileges to non-custodial grandparents and great-grandparents if in the child's best interest.

Establishes four additional factors for Department consideration: mental and physical health of grandparent/great-grandparent, quantity of visitation time and impact on child's activities, harm from loss of relationship, and ability to minimize conflicts between adult family members.

Mandates the Department document and maintain in case file the basis for any denial of visitation, and inform the denied grandparent or great-grandparent of their right to clinical review under Department rules.

Visitation privileges automatically terminate when the child leaves Department care or custody.
