HB5924 Summary

• Guardians must use reasonable efforts to notify the ward's adult children (who have requested notification) of the ward's hospital or hospice admission, death, and arrangements for disposition of remains.

• Courts may order a guardian to permit visitation between a ward and their adult child if the guardian is unreasonably preventing contact and the court finds visitation is in the ward's best interests.

• This subsection does not apply to duly appointed public guardians or the Office of State Guardian.

• Guardians must consider standards for decision-making set forth in Section 11a-17(e), including the ward's personal, philosophical, religious and moral beliefs, when making decisions on behalf of the ward.
