IL HB6006

Amends Illinois Vehicle Code Section 11-701 to reference a new section requiring drivers to change lanes when approaching disabled vehicles on highways.

Creates new Section 11-907.5 requiring drivers approaching a disabled vehicle displaying hazard lights on highways with at least 4 lanes to either change to a non-adjacent lane or reduce speed to a safe level.

Lane changes must be made with due caution and only if possible with regard to safety and traffic conditions; speed reduction is required if lane changes are impossible or unsafe.

Violation of the disabled vehicle approach requirements constitutes a petty offense.
