HB6093 Summary

• Creates new definitions in the Illinois Vehicle Code for automobile transporters, backhaul operations, covered heavy duty tow and recovery vehicles, towaway trailer transporter combinations, and trailer transporter towing units.

• Increases maximum overall length for stinger-steered semitrailers and automobile transporters on Class I and II highways from 75 feet to 80 feet.

• Increases maximum overall length for trucks in transit transporting 3 trucks via triple saddlemount method from 75 feet to 97 feet on Class I and II highways.

• Adds new allowance of 82 feet maximum overall dimension for towaway trailer transporter combinations on Class I and II highways.

• Exempts covered heavy duty tow and recovery vehicles from vehicle weight limitations and allows natural gas/propane vehicles an additional weight allowance of up to 2,000 pounds or the difference between natural gas and diesel fueling systems, whichever is less.
