Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., a public service organization founded January 13, 1913, at Howard University with 250,000+ members across 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters worldwide, is commended for its continued commitment to public service.

The sorority operates through five program areas: educational development, economic development, political awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and international awareness and involvement.

Delta Sigma Theta became a Non-Governmental Organization at the United Nations in 2003 and instituted annual Delta Days legislative conferences since 1989 to increase member involvement in public policy-making.

April 29, 2015 is designated as Delta Day at the Illinois State Capitol, recognizing the sorority's contributions to making Illinois a better place to live, work, and play.

A suitable copy of the resolution shall be presented to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as a symbol of respect and esteem.
