Recognizes May 1-7, 2016 as National Correctional Officers' Week in Illinois to honor the contributions of correctional officers and employees working in jails, prisons, and community corrections.

Acknowledges that the first full week in May has been celebrated as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week annually since President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187 in 1984.

Recognizes the critical and difficult service provided by correctional officers, including their responsibilities to protect public safety, separate violent offenders from communities, and prepare offenders for reintegration.

Acknowledges the demanding nature of correctional work, including constant vigilance, strict security protocols, harsh physical environments, and exposure to violent events.

Directs that a suitable copy of the resolution be presented to the Illinois Correctional Association as a symbol of respect and esteem.
