Jacob Manning Schmitz, a junior at Brother Rice High School, passed away on June 13, 2016, at age 17.

Schmitz was an Edmund Rice Scholar with a GPA over 4.7, ACT score of 32, and member of the National Honor Society who planned to study engineering and medicine.

He served as student council secretary in 2015-2016 and was elected student council president for 2016-2017, the only junior elected to the executive board.

Schmitz participated in the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation's "Get Behind the Vest Drive" and attended multiple leadership conferences throughout the United States.

The Illinois House of Representatives expresses sympathy to his parents Leo Schmitz and Ellyn Weiss Schmitz and extends condolences to his extended family.
