James Robert Lilly, known as "Smokey," "Coach Lilly," "David," and "JR," passed away on June 14, 2016, after being born on February 17, 1953.

Served as a Chicago police officer and detective for 35 years until retirement on April 15, 2013, also working as a Field Training Officer and police academy instructor.

Coached football, basketball, and track at multiple Chicago-area schools including Simeon High School (starting 1978), Calumet High School, Morgan Park, Bogan High School, and Seton Academy.

Earned a Master of Administration degree from Loyola University and was a founding member of the Lindblom High School "Crunch Bunch" in 1980.

Survived by his wife of 38 years Wilma Lilly, daughter Audrina Lilly-Gantt, grandchildren, great-grandchild, siblings, and extended family; preceded in death by sister Sandra Lilly-Bennett.
